Formula-Student planetary gear set

We are pleased to present our planetary gear set specially developed for Formula Student teams.

Developed and manufactured in Switzerland, the gear components guarantee high reliability, low space requirements and high efficiency. The components are compatible with AMK-, Fischer- or self-developed electric motors and offer seamless integration into your FS racecar. We offer two different configurations of the sun gear shaft: one with external spline and one with internal spline. This allows you to choose the optimal variant for your motor.

• Compact and space saving: The components have an extremely compact design, which allows them to be integrated into various vehicle configurations, especially AWD vehicles with 10-inch rims.
• Cost-effective: Recognizing the limited budgets of Formula Student teams, we offer the planetary gear sets for an AWD vehicle for less than €10,000 (4 sets). Additional spare sets can be purchased separately.
• Lightweight design - less than 0.5kg: We use motorsport materials to reduce the overall weight of your car.
• Gear ratio of 12.481 with output on ring gear and fixed planet carrier: Specifically designed for Formula Student cars, the components offer maximum performance with high-speed electric motors from various manufacturers.
• Durability: Designed for an input torque of up to 32 Nm and a life of at least 1000 km at maximum power.

What does the package include?

To ensure smooth integration, the HUMBEL planetary gear set is supplied as a complete package:

• Pre-assembled, stepped planetary gears
• Ready-to-install sun- and ring gears
• Hardened and ground planetary bolts
• Thrust washers for the planetary gears
• Simplified technical drawings and CAD files to support integration into the design of the wheel assembly
• Wheel bearing recommendations to assist in the selection of the most suitable components

The wheel sets are sold as complete sets, i.e. at least four wheel sets are required for an AWD driven vehicle. Precise specifications are given for the design of the surrounding components. Particular attention has been paid to the ease of manufacture of the surrounding interfaces.

Why choose an off-the-shelf gearbox?

Developing a high-performance gearbox for Formula Student competition is very challenging and time consuming. Design, manufacturing and testing are complex and require precise measurements and special materials. Due to the tight schedule and limited resources, it is often difficult for Formula Student teams to develop a lightweight and reliable gearbox and to obtain it on time and in the right quality.
